Scorpions drop 2nd straight road game

Continued from Page 1

Odessa broke a 3-3 tie after two periods with three goals in a 5 1/2 minute span in the final period to cruise to the victory. John Osborne's unassisted shorthanded goal with 10:33 left in the game was followed by power play goals by Jocelyn Dubord (with 8:03 remaining) and Mario Joly (at 4:08).

Odessa outshot New Mexico in all three periods and ended up with a 39-30 advantage for the game. The Jackalopes ended up 2-for-9 on the power play, while the Scorpions were 0-for-9.

The Scorpions never trailed until Osborne's third-period goal. New Mexico took a 1-0 lead on Dominic Osman's team-high in the 20th goal just 1:36 into the game on a 3-on-1 break started by Chris Robertson.

Odessa evened the contest on Mike Rutter's unassisted score with 6:10 remaining in the period. Rutter's goal came on a bad break for New Mexico - as a power play was winding down, the puck hopped over Vladimir Hartinger’s stick and into the neutral zone. Rutter, who was in the penalty box for xxxxx, jumped out and scored a breakaway goal.

Ray Ortiz and Konrad Reeder had goals early in the second period for New Mexico, with Reeder's being his league-high sixth shorthanded score of he season. But Sebastien Thinel and Osborne scored for Odessa before the end of the period to start a five-goal run for the Jackalopes.
