County GOP delegate list confirmed

Democrats still looking for final Sandoval figures

The state Republican Party was finally able to release Tuesday a list of delegates from Sandoval County who will be eligible to vote at the state convention, 11 days after the county gathering left many walking away shaking their head after a day of confusion and chaos.

Meanwhile, the state Democratic Party still is unable to produce complete county results from the Feb. 5 presidential preference caucus.

Democratic Party caucus director Beth Adams said Tuesday she hoped to be able to forward those results to The SCORE later in the day.

"I've got boxes and boxes of stuff here," she said.

An auditing firm that certified the results completed its process last week, but individual breakdown by county, voting site and congressional districts were not immediately available.

The breakdown is important because three Sandoval County voting locations -- in Rio Rancho, Corrales and Bernalillo -- had different voting based on which congressional district a voter lives in. Delegates to the national convention are based in part on the totals in each congressional district.

Barak Obama won Congressional Districts 1 & 3, while Hillary Clinton took Congressional District 2 and won the overall vote. Based on those results and the initial indications of so-called "super delegates," Clinton won 14 of 26 delegates from the state.

The Sandoval County Republican Party had its own issues at its Feb. 16 convention.

A larger-than-expected crowd and lack of organization led to many party regulars walking away in disgust, especially when it was initially announced a voter registration card would be required to participate in the selection of delegates to the state convention March 15.

A written copy of the rules was not available and party leaders had to make several calls to state headquarters for clarification. At one point Heather Wilson's campaign manager was threatened with expulsion before the candidate herself interceded.

Congressman Steve Pearce picked up between 18-20 delegates of the 30 available. Neither candidate will have trouble meeting the 20 percent threshold required by state law, but the disenfranchisement could have repercussions in the general election in what is expected to be a tight race against Democratic Rep. Tom Udall.
