Sandoval County commissioners dealt with more than $8 million of financial matters in less than hour Thursday night while also endorsing a quarter-cent sales tax increase for the University of New Mexico and again approving a zoning case in Placitas.

Among the big ticket items:

* $2.5 million in bonds being sold to fund “reconstructing, resurfacing, maintaining, repairing or otherwise improving existing alleys, streets, roads or bridges, or laying of, opening, constructing or otherwise acquiring new alleys, streets, roads or bridges or any combination of the foregoing,” according to the meeting agenda.

* $2.394 million for roadway, curb and gutters, sanitary sewer, water utilities, and retaining and privacy walls as part of the LaPlazuela Complex infrastructure package. La Plazuela is the name of the new county government center that will also include the judicial complex, health commons and a new administration building.

* $1.938 million for construction of two transit centers at NM 550 and La Plazuela.

* $512,828 for construction of the Torreon volunteer fire station.

The county also completed a rehearing on the Wild Horse development in Placitas that it began two weeks ago. The case had been remanded back to the commission by Judge George Eichwald, citing issues with proper notice for public input among other issues. The commission in turn requested additional work from staff and its planning and zoning commission before voting 4-0 to approve the preliminary platting on the land.
