Commission picks Vigil as new county manager

The SCORE
A divided Sandoval County commission named veteran administrator Juan Vigil as its new county manager by a 3-2 vote Thursday night.
Vigil, who has served two stints as the Bernalillo County manager as part of his 37-year public service career, was the pick of the commission by a 3-2 vote to replace retiring county manager Debbie Hays.
Vigil, who was hired as a special assistant to Hays earlier this year, did not attend the meeting and did not return a telephone call seeking comment.
Commissioners David Bency, Jack Thomas and Don Leonard voted in favor of Vigil. Commission chairman Joshua Madalena and Orlando Lucero voted against the motion to offer Vigil a contract, favoring the candidacy of county public works director Phil Rios instead.
