They're not the '27 Yankees, but the nucleus of the future Cleveland High baseball team continues to impress.

Fielding a team of eighth and ninth graders, the Storm improved to 7-0 on Friday with a xx-x victory over Sandia in their first "home" game of the season.

In Las Cruces, defending champion Rio Rancho advanced to the title game of the New Mexico Invitational again by defeating Roswell Goddard 11-2.

Blake Swihart went 3-for-4 with three RBIs, including two solo home runs in the first and fifth innings, to pace the Rams. Iseha Hines had a three-run triple in the first as the Rams scored four runs in the first inning and never looked back.

Rio Rancho added four more runs in the third inning to advance to the 5:30 p.m. title game against Las Cruces High, which knocked off cross-town rival Onate 12-2. The Bulldawgs are 10-1 this season.

The Rams beat Las Cruces Mayfield 2-0 in the tournament opener after defeating the Trojans in last year's championship game.

Rio Rancho improved to 6-3 with Friday’s victory. They play host to Manzano on Tuesday and open the three-day Sal Puentes Memorial Tournament on Thursday against Roswell.
