3 sources: Obama coming to city Thursday President Barak Obama will be making an appearance in Rio Rancho on Thursday, three reliable sources said Saturday. All three sources, who asked not to be identified, said an official announcement will likely come Monday, at which time details are expected to be made available. Both sources said Obama would be appearing at Rio Rancho High School. One of the sources said Obama is scheduled to appear at 10 a.m. on the RRHS campus. Secret Service agents were on campus on Thursday and Friday taking measurements to make sure the presidential limo would be able to make the turnaround outside of the gymnasium, the source said. Loma Colorado from Northern Boulevard to Broadmoor will be closed, the source said, and Broadmoor from Northern to Loma Colorado may also be closed for security reasons, the source said. Richardson said earlier this week that Obama would be having a town hall meeting on credit card debt, the subject of his national radio address on Saturday. At the time, Richardson indicated the site and time of the town hall had not been determined. The White House also said earlier this week Obama would be visiting Albuquerque on Thursday. A fourth source, who said he spoke to Richardson on Saturday, said the governor said the town hall meeting would be in Albuquerque. But circumstantial evidence seemed to indicate that RRHS was being considered for a presidential visit. Attempts to contact the White House press office and the New Mexico Democratic Party were not successful. In addition to the reports of Secret Service visits, a gang task force meeting scheduled for Thursday has been postponed, presumably so the police officers on the task force could be available to assist in the president’s security detail. Depending on semantics, Obama would be either the first or second sitting president to come to Rio Rancho. President George Bush spoke at Intel in March 2006, though the plant technically sits on Sandoval County land, not the city. Then-Vice President Dick Cheney spoke at what was then the Rio Rancho Mid High during the Bush-Cheney reelection campaign in 2004.
